Koh Samui Development

Some three decades ago Koh Samui had very little in the way of sophisticated housing. Quite a lot of accommodation was still made of wood and concrete dwellings were mostly very simple. In other words they were nothing like the modern buildings that you see today.

All that started changing after the first influx of tourists came in the very late 70s. At first it was only a trickle of people but then it became a deluge. There were many waves of holiday makers coming and all of this required that Koh Samui construction companies had to be able to design and build hotels, resorts and houses, and to do so in contemporary styles.

Koh Samui had relatively few builders and developers but as soon as the island began to acquire its famed status many more were required. Some came from the mainland close to the island while others came from Bangkok and still others from abroad. The most successful of them developed one stop firms that could handle everything that a client might need. Before that, if you wanted a house built you would have had to rely on many different small teams. It was quite a headache especially if you couldn’t speak fluent Thai. The teams would also have to work seamlessly together and if you wanted to act as project manager it meant that you had to be on site pretty much every day.

The new breed of Koh Samui developers changed all that. Because their teams were housed under one roof it was very easy to organize everything and to get everything done in a timely fashion. It also meant that the householder did not need to be present during the construction; he or she could come whenever they wanted to but it didn’t need to be an onerous task that needed to be done daily. Koh Samui development now became much more contemporary.

Today’s properties are now utterly different from how they used to be several decades ago. Now they are on par with similar properties that are to be found in luxury travel destinations such as the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and Australia’s Gold Coast.

Koh Samui villas tend to be very spacious and have large well-tended gardens and grounds. Properties very often have wonderful views either over the sea or over the hills. Most will feature a swimming pool as an outdoor focal point, usually with an infinity edge. The swimming pool is very often located right next to the living room which will have large glass windows / doors that can be thrown open allowing easy access to the world outside. This means that you can go straight from the sofa or the dining table to the pool for a dip, or just relax on the sun loungers outside. Koh Samui development and architecture focuses on making the most of the summery days.

Bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms which will often resemble luxury spas and feature rain showers or granite hot tubs. The bedrooms will have balconies and again large glass windows that can be slid back allowing the light and the views to come right inside the room.
Kitchens will be state-of-the-art and even the most reluctant cook will enjoy making food in them. It’s a cinch to either eat in the living room or just outside in the garden.

Villas on Koh Samui range from small one-bedroomed homes all the way through to large mansions. Smaller villas are ideal for couples and those with families, while the very large ones are suited to large gatherings; they are often used for events such as parties and weddings.
Koh Samui development also consists of commercial buildings such as hotels, resorts, cafes and bars as well as offices. These are much in demand.
